True Course Simulations Installs DA40 VR Immersive Flight Simulator at UNSW Aviation in Sydney

We are proud to partner with the University of New South Wales (UNSW) School of Aviation in Sydney, home to one of Australia’s most respected university flight programs. Training is conducted through UNSW’s Flying Operations Unit at Bankstown Airport, making the addition of a DA40‑specific simulator an ideal complement to their daily instruction and rigorous standards.
This installation integrates our Diamond DA40 VR Immersive Flight Simulator directly into UNSW’s training program. The simulator closely replicates the DA40, complete with the G1000 glass cockpit, allowing students to rehearse the same switch positions, flows, and callouts they will perform in the aircraft. Paired with the TCS Virtual Instructor Courseware, it delivers standardized, repeatable, and engaging training through more than 70 interactive lessons, enhanced by real‑time feedback and automated grading.
UNSW has strengthened its DA40 fleet with the addition of six new DA40 XLT aircraft, which have joined operations at Bankstown. A type-specific simulator supports this growth, maintains consistent procedures, and protects the schedule when weather or maintenance delays aircraft access.
DA40 VR Simulator Installation at UNSW Aviation
Our team collaborated with UNSW staff to complete installation and onboarding at the Bankstown facility. The setup aligns with UNSW’s aircraft and syllabus. The goal is straightforward. Provide students with more quality practice, reduce delays, and maintain uniform standards across cohorts.
The unit delivers a full DA40 environment in VR. High-fidelity visuals support natural head and hand movement during scans and switch actions. The Virtual Instructor Courseware interface puts full control at the fingertips, including pause and quick scenario changes, and immediate resets. Those tools allow short, focused reps that build skills while saving aircraft time for tasks that must be flown in the air.
UNSW’s training is centered at Bankstown, where the Flying Operations Unit runs flying programs and supports students with aircraft and simulators. Placing a DA40-specific device on site ensures a smooth handover between simulator and aircraft, lesson by lesson.
How the Immersive Flight Simulator Enhances Training at UNSW
Students gain more repetitions with less friction. They can execute multiple stabilized approaches, traffic patterns, and stall series in a single session, with no taxi time or fuel consumption. Time-critical events can be practiced safely, including engine failure after takeoff and go-around. Feedback turns every session into a clear debrief, so the fix is simple, and the next rep is focused.
Instructors gain flexibility and consistency. Aircraft time is reserved for reinforcing and proving skills, stage checks, and weather work that requires live operations. Training stays on track when ceilings drop or an aircraft is out for maintenance, since sessions can be moved to the lab without losing the objective. This balance aligns with UNSW’s ongoing investment in the DA40 fleet at Bankstown.
Talk with True Course Simulations
At True Course Simulations, we design and develop Virtual Flight Instructor Courseware and the accompanying Immersive Flight Simulators for common training aircraft, including the Diamond DA40 and Cessna 172. Our focus is on practical, realistic procedures, repeatable scenarios, instructor control, and data-based debriefs that help students progress with confidence.
If you would like to learn how your aviation organization, university, or high school aviation program can benefit from our immersive flight simulators, please get in touch. We can show you our different aircraft environments, answer any questions you have about setup and support, and outline a plan that fits your fleet, syllabus, and goals. We are ready to help you bring the same training advantages to your campus.
